Selections

While the display is pretty and informative, it wouldn't be terribly useful if that was all it could do. Select the arrow tool and then use it to click on a folder or file. Notice how the file highlights (well, dark-lights) in black? That indicates that the file (or folder) is selected.

(Make sure you don't have power-select mode turned on. Power-select mode is designed for power users and will confuse you if you don't know how to use it. Power-select mode is turned on or off by clicking the arrow-with-wrench icon below the select tool. You want it off for now.)

You can use all the typical selection tools you're used to when selecting files. Clicking selects a file; shift-clicking (holding down the Shift key while you click the mouse button) lets you select multiple files; and control-clicking (with the Control or Ctrl key) lets you both add and remove files from the selection.
